Mix Your Routines Up!

Today I’m posting a family short post, but with a very useful tip. I used to endlessly go into the gym performing the same exercises week after week, and finding my rate of strength increase was slowing down. Then a friend told me I needed to stop doing the same exercises every week, and mix my routine up a little. This was such a useful tip, and now my muscle mass is increase a lot more.

How can I track my progress?

If you’re keeping a log book, it may be hard to track your progress with all the switching around, but here’s a useful tip I’ve picked up. Perform the same sets of exercises each week, recording your progress as you go in your log book. Once you start to see your gains decreasing, change your exercise routine and start all over again. This way you can still see gains (maybe over a 4 – 5 week period), but still be mixing up your routines regularly enough.

So finally, if you are performing dumbbell curls week after week, maybe try a set of 21’s next week instead! Or if your bored of the seated cable row, try the dumbbell row instead next time you work out your back. It’s a great little tip, and I hope you use it.
